Dr. Collins is the President of SENG (Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted).
SENG
is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower families and
communities to guide gifted and talented individuals to reach their goals: intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially, and
spiritually.
As a
signature program unique to SENG, learn more about SENG Model Parent Group
SMPG©). It is a great resource and hands-on support program aimed at educating
and supporting parents, families, and caregivers of gifted, talented, and
twice-exceptional individuals in their efforts to ensure their children thrive
socially and emotionally. Consider becoming a trained SMPG facilitator and
starting a support group in your area!
SENG
Model Parent Groups (SMPGs) bring together 10-20 parents of gifted and talented
children to discuss such topics as motivation, discipline, stress
management, and peer relationships. The co-facilitators
of these groups are knowledgeable about parenting and educating
gifted children. However, they do not attempt to give expert advice. Instead,
their facilitation provides a non‐judgmental and nurturing atmosphere.
SMPG Facilitator training includes:

· The Role of SMPG Facilitators and Parent Collaboration;
· Group Facilitation Techniques;
· Practice of Facilitation Techniques;
· Potential Problems and
Solutions in SMPGs;
· How to Organize a local SMPG;

not limited to, Topic Areas: Characteristics of the Gifted, Motivation,

Biography
of Dr. Kristina Collins, the President of SENG (Supporting
Emotional Needs of the Gifted).
Kristina
Henry Collins, Ph.D., is the core faculty for Talent Development at Texas State
University, San Marcos. She is also a Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ)
Institute Faculty Research Fellow whereby she serves as the NASA STEM EPDC
(Educator Professional Development Collaboration) Research and Strategic
Projects Specialist.
Dr.
Collins boasts almost 30 years of teaching and leadership experience
in various educational settings, PK-20. Her educational background includes
a Ph.D. in educational psychology at The University of Georgia where she
also earned an Ed.S. degree, specializing in gifted and creative education
(GCE) with an add-on certificate in educational administration and
policy leadership; a M.S.Ed. degree in mathematics from Jacksonville
State University with an add-on certificate in technology
education from the Georgia Piedmont Technical Institute; a B.S.
degree in Engineering from The University of Alabama; and a military
diploma in cryptology and electronic surveillance with the United States
Navy.
Dr.
Collins’ research foci include social, emotional, and cultural (SEC)
contexts of gifted and talent development; STEM identity development
in underrepresented students; and mentoring across the lifespan. Dr.
Collins is the proud recipient of the 2020 NAGC SPN Early Career Award her
“change agent” work, research and teaching in higher education since 2015. She
was nominated by Bridges Academy as 2020 “Person to Watch” for her research and
culturally responsive 2E model. She was the 2011 Mary Frasier Equity and
Excellence Award recipient, presented to her by Georgia Association of Gifted
Children (GAGC) for her work in advancing educational opportunities for
unidentified and underserved students in gifted education.
In addition
to serving on the NAGC board, Dr. Collins is the president of the Supporting
the Emotional Needs of the Gifted, Inc. (SENG) board, and she serves on the
advisory committee for the G-Word Film documentary and Texas Gifted Education
Family Network. Dr. Collins previously served in several other NAGC roles,
including awards chair of the Special Populations Network, a member of the
Diversity & Equity Committee, and a mentor to the Javits-Frasier Teacher
Scholars. Dr. Collins founded the GAGC regional affiliate organization, East
Metro Alliance for Gifted Education (EMAGE), and served as its first executive
director.
Among
other services to the field, Dr. Collins is a nationally trained
research-based mentor-facilitator (NRMN), and she offers
presentations, workshops and training related in the following areas:

Os Grupos de Pais do Modelo SENG (SMPGs) reúnem de 10 a 20 pais de

co-facilitadores desses grupos têm conhecimento sobre como criar filhos e

Kristina Henry Collins, Ph.D., é a professora de Desenvolvimento de
